Phil Lambert moved to Melbourne from New Zealand after receiving a Bachelor of Music Degree in Composition from the University of Canterbury. During his degree he wrote both contemporary works and scores for a number of short films, some of which receiving local reviews. Since taking his career and his music over to Melbourne, Phil has written various compositions for Short Films including the 2003, 2004, 2005 Sydney film festivals, 2006 Tropfest, Contemporary Concerts, Ring Tones, T.V Show Teasers, Music for Websites, Feature Film Trailers/Teasers and his own solo projects. Phil is currently Musical Director and Composer for the Feature Film "From Parts Unknown" by Melbourne based company Strongman Pictures. Phil's ability to write music for a range of musical styles allows him to adapt to genres of film, television, documentary and advertisements alike. Some of these styles include: solo instrumentation, small ensemble works, contemporary scoring, electro-acoustic, orchestral scores and commercial band music. Phil prides himself on the ability to accurately depict themes and intentions within his music and understands the importance to mould and shape these ideas to accommodate any further development needed by the director or producer. Phil's studio includes: Pro-tools 003 software and hardware, Avalon 737 Pre-amp, Sibelius (score writing program), Yamaha Motif ES8 (88 weighted keys), Clavinova weighted keyboard, Professional microphones: SM58's and Rhode NT1-A, Marshal JCM 900 Amplifier and Quad box, Gibson Les Paul Electric Guitar, Guild Acoustic Guitar, E13 Buffet Clarinet and Temby Professional Saxophone. The combination of the realistic module sounds and live instruments is central to Phil's composing process, as this allows him the freedom to include a large range of influences within his music, and to be involved in both the composition and performance aspects of his works. As a multi-instrumentalist, Phil takes full advantage of his training to develop ideas and understands the instruments he writes for. This ultimately means that his music can be written and recorded in a shorter period of time whilst minimising both the time and costs associated with producing ensemble works.
